Howdy. Frater Mus here in Texas. I found the LIMV blog while reading about minimalism and vandwelling. I currently live in a house although I am working on a truck-based camping/bugout/living arrangement I call Hotel Ranger. My interests are: - living more simply with LESS STUFF
- being able to survive if the current economic situation goes from bad to SHTF
- efficient uses of space like subs, boats, Japanese coffin hotels, tiny houses, "urban camping", etc.
- microsolar installations
That's it for now. I don't check in all the time but I am reminded of the forum whenerver LIMV gets new articles. |

So nice to have you Sir. I would like to hear more about Japanese coffin hotels. Sounds a little scary but....if you feel inclined you could start a new thread about it on this forum.
It's interesting...my older daughter who doesn't know I free-sleep in my van, was talking about buying me a boat to live on....it's like she tapped into my brain or something...but isn't getting a clear signal. I immediately asked my younger daughter (who knows where I sleep) if she had told my older daughter and she said no...
I guess we are reading some of the same things on the internet, my older daughter and I. Life is so interesting sometimes. I am glad she is reading things about alternate ways of living...she has an okay job now and is doing alright but all of that can change overnight.
I'm rambling this morning...but it made me think of a new thread to make.

Hi, great forum, i have lived in a car for about seven months, I am working full time but accomodation is expensive, I now have a room but am planning to live in a van so that I can save, I have just bought a small van and am pricing up what I need to make a basic warm place to live.
The good thing about having done this before is that I am aware of the things that were very difficult....condensation in a cold damp climate (Argyll Scotland)....keeping organised....keeping warm...stealth....being clean and smart for work.....boredom....
My first step with my new van is soundproofing then insulation etc. the soundproofing is very expensive has anyone got any ideas how this could be done cheaper?

You're in Scotland! How interesting! I have no idea about soundproofing. Are you planning to listen to music or something? In my situation soundproofing doesn't seem necessary but maybe your situation is different.

Hi Maureen, thanks for the reply, the soundproofing is really just for added stealth....maybe a wee bit snoring...and as soon as one person has realised that a vehicle has someone living in it...word travels fast...and I dont really want to draw attention to the fact that I am living in a different way to anyone else, and maybe for watching t.v. on the laptop too. The police are very aware of their surroundings and all vehicles and who owns them, I dont know what the law is here about living this way, but would rather not find out.
The soundproofing material has an aluminium backing so also helps with cold in winter and warmth in summer (not too much of that here though), must be great to live like this in a warm climate, keeping warm is the biggest challenge here, I read somewhere that humans can only go about 24 hours without comfort...I have to agree.
I am aware that the position I am in is a very fortunate one, I have a van and a job I love, and I know that there are people living on the streets with nothing but a cardboard box around them, if I ever feel chilled to the bone on a snowy day...I think of them, and feel very lucky.

Hi, My husband and I have lived in our Ford Iveco 7.5 ton truck for 3 years and before that had a 30 yr old Bedford cf campervan. We live like this through choice after losing our home due to redundancy. We have two 80w solar panels for electricity a woodburner for warmth and one that has a oven for cooking. Wouldnt swap for a house.
