If you are or have been a dollar store or 99 cent store eater, please tell us about it.
For myself, I really like their teas, sardines and tuna and I have even gotten organic vegetables there! They also have peanut butter, cheese, coffee...lots of stuff you can get at a grocery store. They have tons of candy and soda too but I try to stay away from those.
I prefer organic food, but I can't always get it so I'm glad to know these types of stores are around.
Please tell me what you like at these stores.

I did buy a few cans from a dollar tree. The 1st night I had a couple of eggs and yams stir fried with spinach. very good. I threw a salad together with the bagged lettuce on sale (not from the dollar place) threw olives and string beans from them in there and packages of mayo with pepper. I have asked friends to get some extra condiments for me. I am not so bashful to ask. I have potatoes too that I will add to a salad. May make potato salad with it and crack a can of tuna open. I also buy their jerkys sometimes. Good for snacks.

Hey...mutual friend of Mooch here... I use the Dollar tree stores to find alot of what I use to fill the survival packs I make for the homeless community. Its a wonderful place of resources!! If you could go in an fill a survival back pack with items from this store, what would you put in it?...I like feed back from people in your situation. Good luck out there!!

A brush and comb. Socks. Underwear. T shirts, I know they have a few in the summertime.Candles? I put a question mark because of fire hazard. A large bottle of antiseptic. Toothbrush /paste. Really things they can use over again. Tarp, emergency blanket. I believe I saw them there. Gloves /hat in the winter. Probably a few other things but that all I can think of now.

Hey Ryan, good question. Of course, homeless people's needs are as different as regular people's needs. With that said, my ideas off the top of my head are as follows:
I often crave a little scrub brush for my nails-sometimes they are hard to find. I imagine a manicure kit would be very handy to many. The dollar stores have lots of different ointments and medicines too now....triple antibiotic ointment, advil etc. Anything normal people use, homeless people probably need even more desperately. To-go cups might be good too. I'm sure I'll think of more things. I will try to post them, as I do.
Oh...they sell cheap reading glasses at these stores now. That's something that would be nice to have on hand for those that could use them!

Got sardines and fig newton type cookies tonight at the dollar store. Fig newtons almost seem healthy. Hope they are.

I prefer the Dollar General because if you spend $20 you can get $5 worth of free stuff when you go back but the $5 can only be used on a saturday so I always just get canned goods whether I need them or not.

When I was in the Army and had to go to the field for 3 mths at a time I would buy $200 worth of canned goods because I hated sneaking up on my food let alone the c-rations and mre's. Dinty Moore Stew was my favorite.
