Hi there. I somehow found this blog about the van living and forgot how I got here, but I guess I was just looking for some kind of support and someone who "gets it". I've been living in my four door sedan vehicle for 2 years...sometimes I wish I had a van to have more room and space so I could actually lay flat. Anyways, I also have 4 birds who live in the cages in the back seat. It's an interesting living situation for sure. Well I guess I'll post more later. I'm at the library and have to get ready to go to one of my two jobs. I just got the second one because the first one is only 28 hours a week and not even enough to get me the gas money to get around back and forth from the job. I now got a 2nd job and so now I have possibly too many hours. I would be happier with the regular 40 hours a week, but now I have 58...Its always never enough or too much it seems...however I work my ass off and still don't really make enough to make a decent living on this minimum wage jobs...I have my moments of frustration but I usually stay pretty positive...this seems to be a nice forum so I'll be in touch

Hi again MotalAcura. Like I said in the note I sent you, this is our forum where we can support each other-those of us that are already living "differently" and those who might be thinking about it. Thanks again for jumping in with both feet and posting! Maureen ps. Here's my blog if you don't know about it already www.livinginmyvan.com

OK I'd like to talk about how saving for a van can be a catch 22. You have to pay rent. You want to save for the van. So this is my idea and hopefully it will work for me. I am saving not for the best van. It doesn't have to look great. Of course I don't want one thats peeling ALL over of paint. Thats not being stealth. I just one that will keep me close to work and I can put more money aside, In 2 years time I will get another van. I have 2 friends who are mechanics so that always helps!!

I think you should buy a decent van. Mine is old and gives me a lot of trouble. Make sure at least that the engine and transmission are okay. It would be better to take longer to get out on the road than to do it quick and be unprepared. Those are my thoughts. Thanks for jumping on board right away. This was your idea, remember??

What? Are you a millionaire? Just kidding. I think that sound like a good amount. It sounds like you have a decent job too so you can have a bit saved if anything goes wrong. I'm gonna make a new topic for this....hopefully we'll get some new members tonight and they will chime in.

Hey, call myself Van Tripper, live in a 2000 Chevy 1ton in middle Tn., drove a big trk for last several years, drove a taxi in Fla. for 19yrs. Tell everyone I'm a semi-retired, semi-driver, work for a driver temp. service now. Like the temp. service because I can take days or weeks off and call and go back to work when I want, trying to get a network of temp.services around the country so I can travel and work easily. If anyone knows of one in your area, please send me the info, personal message would be fine if you do not want others to know your location.
